How is care embedded in social power structures?
This question is addressed within the exhibition Caring in Times of Continuous Crisis by Kasseler Kunstverein. After a phase of interruption and uncertainty due to the Corona pandemic, we are dedicating a multi-part exhibition series to this omnipresent but continuously devalued topic. The exhibition and research project explores care as work, as a concept and as a transformative force.
The invited artists and groups draw on participatory, queer, anti-colonial, and feminist traditions and show solidarity-based ways of caring for each other and living together: Who cares for what? Why is care work often invisible and unpaid? How is care connected to global and local power structures? How are economy, ecology and social participation interwoven? How to organize care beyond patriarchal, capitalist and Eurocentric structures?
Part I of the exhibition series can be seen at the Kasseler Kunstverein from 26. August to 15. October 2023. The works and events of Feministische Gesundheitsrecherchegruppe (Julia Bonn/Inga Zimprich), Formate des Dialogs, and Luiza Prado De Oliveira Martins open up a network of perspectives, gaps and connections – a place of learning where one‘s own involvement in power structures can be reflected upon and possibilities for action can be tested.
