From 09.12.2022 to 08.01.2023 the Kasseler Kunstverein presents the first institutional solo exhibition "Vorbild" by the artist Thomas Reymann as a conclusion of the exhibition activity in its temporary exhibition spaces. The exhibition will show paintings, for which Thomas Reymann will create installative spatial stagings in the temporary exhibition spaces of the Kunstverein. An essential part of the exhibition will be the performative intervention "The artist is present". Thomas Reymann, therefore, will take over the art mediation in his own show during the opening hours and interact with the audience. This interaction goes beyond merely entering into conversation with one another and is based on the displayed works that contain concrete instructions for action for the visitors.
Thomas Reymann lives and works in Kassel. He studied with Prof. Johannes Spehr at the Kassel Art Academy and is the winner of the cdw-Stiftung gGmbH sponsorship prize awarded as part of EXAMEN 2020. He is a recipient of the Georg Meistermann Fellowship of the Cusanuswerk 2021-2023.
Reymann's working method and its underlying consistent rejection of classical art market strategies has doubt and artistic self-reflection as its program and painterly task. His works consist of canvas, packing tape, plaster, fabric as well as various other materials dominated by a recurring diffuse brown tone. In doing so, Reymann questions what constitutes a picture or a color in the first place.
In a separate room in the exhibition space, a three-channel sound installation is conceived in collaboration with the musician Sebastian Jurchen. A rhythmic inner monologue at the interface between music and language can be heard. The motif of the search for role models/the doubting of role models will be experienced or felt in an abstracted form.
