Schichtwechsel
Layers, levels, stacks. Liska Schwermer-Funke works in a friendly, confrontational manner. Whether in painting, installation or performance - she brings together elements that are drastically dissimilar and uses color, material and action to initiate unexpected encounters between irritation and support.
In her abstract large-format paintings, garish lines meet swampy surfaces, clearly outlined forms meet snotty gestures, acrylic paint and spray paint meet chalk and colored pencil. The pictorial elements shake or accentuate each other, rub or complement each other, challenge each other. In the painting process, Schwermer-Funke repeatedly reacts to the previous picture layer by layer with contrasts. Starting from the current state, she is always looking for the next step that will make the existing one more exciting, more complete, more complex.
For the "Schichtwechsel" exhibition, the artist removes her paintings from the wall and develops them into the space. Equipped with castors, they become mobile pictorial objects, the Kunstverein's premises become a dynamically playable pictorial space, the visitors become transducers between the levels. The artistic process does not end with the finished picture, but continues by placing it in relation to and locating it in the space. Together with the artist, you are invited to shift the position of the individual pictures, to dare to play with what is already there and to curiously initiate change.
